Glen Arbor, MI – May 16, 2014 –  Visit Glen Arbor this summer and you will notice some big changes on the bustling corner of M-22 and Ray Street.

Anderson's Glen Arbor Market

Anderson’s Market has just completed the full renovation of their corner market, and is celebrating this and their 20th Anniversary with a 4 day food-centric block of events. Festivities kick off on May 20th from 6-8 pm, when owner Brad Anderson and his staff will be hosting a casual cocktail party with wine tastings, Michigan Made product sampling and other tastes of fine foods from around the globe.  “It’s a chance for us to give thanks to our community and customers for their support by treating them to a fun evening,” Anderson states.

Local vendors on hand each day through the 23rd include Higher Grounds Trading Co., Old Mission Multigrain, Pleasanton Bakery, Grocer’s Daughter Chocolate, Northern Natural Cider HouseOsorio Tacos y Salsas, Boar’s Head Meats and more.  Many vendors will also have special offers during their visits, and the market will be giving away a handful of gift baskets filled with local products. For a schedule of vendor appearances during the week, visit andersonsglenarbor.com.

The updated market features an expanded selection of local, seasonal produce, a full service deli, butcher shop and Leelanau County’s largest wine selection.  “We have always embraced locally made and grown products, and we are excited to bring even more of these special items to our customers,” says Brad.

Anderson’s Market has also expanded their full lineup of grocery selections to include a variety of organic & specialty foods, craft beers & ciders and house-made sandwiches & salads.  The market will also continue to offer all of the food and dry good necessities for stocking the home or cottage pantry.

In addition to creating an exterior visually complementary to the existing Glen Arbor landscape, It was also important to Anderson to ensure that updates and additions to the market were environmentally friendly and low-impact.

A combination of LED and natural lighting, along with energy efficient fixtures and kitchen/cooling equipment, all exceed energy efficiency standards.  The market also participates in a local composting program, and recycles materials on a regular basis.

“We also encourage our customers to bring their own bags or purchase reusable bags which we carry at the market.  We’d love to see our customers embrace a more plastic-free shopping experience,” Brad states.

“We also are proud to say that 100% of the work on this project, from top to bottom, was completed by local businesses,” says Anderson.  Credit goes to Ray Kendra of Environment Architects for the design, Bryan Lawton of Grand Traverse Construction for the build out and Len Allgaier of Peninsula Pavers for the finishing landscaping and outdoor patio construction.

“We’re so fortunate to be part of a special group of locals and visitors who have embraced the market for years; who have become part of the Anderson’s family,” says Brad. “We look forward to continuing to provide Leelanau County with a corner market where everyone feels at home.”
